· The song was telecasted for the first time after the telecast of the Prime Minister’s speech on Independence Day, 1988, from the Red Fort.
· Along with Hindi the song was sung in other languages like Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
· The cast which performed in the song included:

· Except Naseeruddin Shah at the request of Doordarshan, many actors agreed to be a part of the film.
· Kavita Krishnamurthy had recorded most of the initial track for the actresses.
· Lata Mangeshkar made time in her schedule and made the last minute entry to record the song in the studio, wearing a sari with a pallu in the colours of the Indian flag.
· The last shot of the film, featuring school children, was shot at Mullick’s alma mater in Shimla.
· The lyrics were penned by Piyush Pandey. It was the 18th draft of the song that finally made the cut.
· The opening sequence was shot at Pambar Falls in Kodaikanal, also popularly known as the Liril Falls. It stars Hindustani Classical singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

· For Taj Mahal’s aerial shots, Kailash Surendranath flew down to Agra and met the Air Marshal. The officer allowed him to shoot from an IAF helicopter.
· The video featured Kolkata Metro, the first Indian transit system of its kind which began operations in the 1980s.
· Kamal Haasan’s appearance in the video was a surprise, he didn’t want to be featured prominently in the video. The actor accompanied Carnatic singer M Balamuralikrishna, who was shooting a sequence at a beach.
· The song is seen to be featuring ordinary people from around the nation a boat man from Kerala, Punjabi farmers riding a tractor, people from Kolkata coming out of a metro train, Bharatnatyam dance from Tamil Nadu, Goan fishermen, Bhimu dance of Assam and many other forms and symbols that represents the diversity of nation.
