Badla movie review
Badla is a well-crafted suspenseful crime thriller. Director Sujoy Ghosh delivers solid thrills and genuine twists with great effect this keeps the viewer engaged and constantly guessing what will come next. The film is plotted as a remake of the Spanish film “The Invisible Guest”. The solid performances by Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu have made it a good run. Both were last seen together in Pink.
The majority of the drama unfolds between just the two main characters of Badla, Naina and Badal Gupta. The plot lies in the fact that a woman has been accused of murdering her lover, and a lawyer wants to get to her truth in order to defend her. Both collaborate to recollect the mystery of Arjun’s murder. It’s a dialogue-heavy setup, In the simplest sense, the premise of ‘Badla’ is a conversation between an accused, Naina and her lawyer, Badal.
But, the very fact that how both characters withhold the truth and reveal their true intentions, slowly and steadily keeps the intrigue alive. The two main components not at all believe in the other but both will do anything to uncover the truth of the other. Ghosh and his co-writer Raj Vasant bring the story to an Indian touch with plenty of Mahabharata references. Overall ‘Badla’ offers a creative and thrilling end to a captivating mystery.
