Aashram Web Series Review

The whole setup of Prakash Jha’s digital debut series Aashram is just terrific. In fact a lot of detailing has been done for constructing the Ashram and production. The story of Aashram centres on one fake godman who abuses the power of religion to rob poor people of their money and aspirations, all in the name of God. Prakash Jha is always known for highlighting infamous issues, be it be ‘Satyagraha’ emphasising on corruption or ‘Raajneeti’ exploring the politics. He has always succeeded in directing touched issues.  Aashram as depicted by the director is far apart from its real meaning name and depicts what is all together opposite to this. It is a mine of criminal activities. From prostitution to flesh trade, drugs and what not everything happens here.

Prakash Jha has showcased everything in an effective manner, the way cops in UP operate, how fake Baba’s live their life, how politics is planned. The series gives minute details of the motives that drive a person to become a godman. Prakash Jha succeeded in portraying Bobby Deol as the dark character of a godman in ‘Aashram’. He runs the ‘Aashram’ successfully with his best buddy and right-hand Bhopa Bhai (Chandan Roy Sanyal).

Anupriya Goenka In Aashram
Anupriya Goenka In Aashram

Bobby Deol calmly slips into the role of Kashipur Wale Baba and does it with supreme ease. The role demands a lot of talking through his eyes which is performed very well. After SHE, Aaditi Pohankar gets an amazing role. Tridha Chowdary is glamorous and prolific while Tushar Pandey is effective in his role. The cop duo Darshan Kumaar and Vikaram Kochhar did a fab job. Anupriya Goenka is a pleasure to watch as a strong forensic doctor. The supporting cast including Rajeev Siddhartha and Rajeev Siddhartha does their roles supremely well. The series is written around an interesting premise and fake Baba act. The time wastage thing is when the director Prakash Jha goes way too in detail of each character.  Although certain aspects of the story need a little brushing, overall Aashram comes to be a good show to watch. It’s a sure power pack and thrilling success in the bag of MX Player.
